Honor our Kids with Safe Routes to School Patch

Thanks to all the families who walked and biked our way to winning grants for new sidewalks.  Patches are available for sale this week through New Providence Girl Scouts, Allen W. Roberts, Salt Brook, New Providence Middle School, and New Providence High School parent teacher organizations.  Honor New Providence borough winning gold for our Safe Routes to School efforts.  Celebratory Patches iron on and will also have a loop to attach to your key chain or button.  Limited supplies available so get yours while supplies last!  Cost is $2 per patch, with $1 profit going to your school’s parent-teacher organization. They’ll use it to help pay for  Safe Routes to School signs and give-aways.

Help us win future grants

Our 3 “special projects” should help us win Gold next time around, giving us “extra points” when we apply for grants. #WalkNP, Native Plants on Your Way to School, and our celebratory Gold Patch.

Displaying your Safe Routes to School Patch encourages other families to walk to school!  Hang it on the zipper pull of your backpack or coat to encourage others to walk and roll. Iron it on the back of your Girl Scout sash or Cub Scout shirt.  Snap a picture, post to social media and tag #WalkNP!

How patches have helped New Providence’s succeed

Our district-wide walk to school days were first organized by Girl Scouts for their journey projects.  The 4th and 5th graders first brought Salt Brook’s rich tradition of trekkin’ to Allen W. Roberts.  That spring event was such a success that the girls then expanded it District-wide the next fall. Each fall and spring since, fellow Girl Scouts walk to school in droves and earn a patch for their efforts.  For example, all the girls in a troop might meet at one house and walk together.  They also help us achieve a critical mass of kids walking, making it safer for us all.

This is the first time we’ve created a custom patch, which we are also offering to all New Providence residents.
